- DATES: Pre-1967
- Venue: No particular place, actually
- From "doncardoza at angelfire dot com":
Well, the Society has certainly come a long way from the early days
when I was a member. I was disappointed, tho, that you only start the
history from 1967. I remember when I went to meetings while in high
school at various members' houses (I was grauated in 1965). I can
still see the thick eyeglasses of the short Jerry Katz, with his slicked
back very black hair. who took me around - and remember playing
Risk at many of the meets. In later years, after I returned from
Vietnam in 1970, I found the Society holding meets at the streetcar
museum; the first time I was there, we all went outside and lined up
to do high kicks like a chorus line, to the puzzlement of passing
motorists - this, of course, gave us something else to talk about
when we adjourned to an all night diner to snack and talk til dawn.
Jack Chalker used to take me to SF meets in Philadephia, and we
would compare notes on both being shot while in the military (he,
of course, was only shot with a .22). Running across your website
brings back fond memories of what a SF club should be; I hope
some of you are still maintaining the old ways.
- Pre Balticon Memories:
If you have any information about fannish activities in
Baltimore prior to the convention now known as Balticon that you would like to
see included here, please send it to "webmeister at bsfs dot org"
and look for it to be published here!!
